What has been the impact of the internet on media production?

During 1995 The Guardian newspaper did not own a website at the time, but the slowly started to consider promoting the paper online. The capabilities then weren’t as wide, because the internet was a new to technology, and not as nearly as established as today. I will illustrate the evolvement of The Guardian and how the paper were impacted to graudate into new media.
In September 1995 the Guardian's New Media Lab was officially established by the Board of Guardian Newspapers Ltd with instructions 'to implement an electronic publication of the Guardian and Observer'.
The Guardian webpage existed in an era where the platform of information was read only. It consists of static and non-interactive web pages that at most allow for an interchange of documents. In 1996 for were 45 million global users. The focus of Web 1.0 was on companies and owning content.
