Ideas for the Front Panel of the Digipak

Apart form making the music video the brief also insist we produce other promotional material of our choice. Our group has decided as part of the Ancillary Task to design a magazine advert and the digipak.

Here the briefs says:
1. A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
  • a website homepage for the band;
  • a cover for its release as part of the digipak (CD/DVD package);
  • a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).
I decided to design the the single of the music video we are creating 'Nights of Broken Sleep' as a form of design practise prior to the digipak that I design later as part of my ancillary tasks. Below I have produced a variation of one idea and another on influential people that in history never grew tired of the desire for change, this was a long , but enjoyable process producing the several ideas for the digipak.

The production of the digipak is ultimately the job of an graphic designer, but I think I can bring my creative streak into developing some cool and unique design ideas for the potential CD cover. So I had to take into consideration the software's I could to the best of my ability because last year we worked heavily on the promotional material for the artist, I am familiar with the process in which I have to go through to produce Cd cover. For instance the font that use does it fit best with the genre that is your artist, is the artwork original photography or drafted off the Internet? All important areas and more to evaluate when making up ideas for the CD cover.

I was inspired to develop a collage artwork for the cover. Many of the photography was taken by our team member Hannah. While also consisting a section of the actresses face that is obsessed over in the video.

This cover is an alternate version of the one above, in reverse order. the colour scheme being limited to just black and white, I think it holds more mystery like the artist in the video.

The theme of this cover art is of the most influential people form Winston Churchill to Martin Luther King. I took the idea of Broken sleep is what these individuals went through when fighting for what they believed in. Radika came up with idea and I thought I might experiment with it and select ultimate figures in history.

I personally like this cover art, it uses the same images cultivated in the first cover above. Only that it block at most areas featuring only Salvador Dali's painting 'The Rose', sleeping pills, and water balloon. I was inspired by stain glass windows, and this idea that is where the artist in the video may want to seek forgiveness for his actions.

I use a unique bubble typography in the first, however, I don't think suits an indie artist.

This font is alot less chunky than the first one, I like this one because of the blue glow around it, this reminded me of X-files. A show about investigating alien life.

This was the first text I considered for the first cover art, other than liking the small distortion in the text, I didn't think fit well with the image of our artist. the font we chose for the artist make is key because it will become an official representation/reflection of artist brand and logo.

From designing the single for the video that I am directing was a great form of practise to get out some ideas through developing ideas in connection with the title of the songs that I could do the same with unrest, by choosing images or themes that depict that feeling of Unrest. I would like to develop one of these ideas further for the cover of the digipak. I think with some research of other professional digipak our group can devise a great digipak for our artist Oliver Fox.

Pre-production: Health and safety

9) A list of health and safety issues I have identified and details about what steps I have taken to minimise these / address them / keep ourselves safe.

The scene in the woods when our actress is shot the contents that we make the blood on her shirt must be ingredient that is safe to inhale during the shoot and that it doesn't cause any irritation to the skin. To do this we must research the safety of the contents we mix.
Another scene in the woos we must ensure the safety of the actress and actor when are running from each other that we mark on the ground and choreograph how they travel between the woods so they do not trip and bump into trees. This could cause fatal injuries to their head or body.
The weather plays an important health risk considering we are shooting sometimes in cold conditions, therefore, we will provide our actors and crew behind the camera to come in warm clothing like weather proofs jackets in case of rain delaying our filming. We can ensure that everyone would be suitably dressed for whatever weather conditions.
The accidental shooting in the forest we have our actress Hannah tied to a tree before she is shot, so the rope that will be tied around her hands behind her will not be tight/ tied properly. To avoid limiting the circulation of her blood during the scene, once we got the panning shot around the tree with her arms tied the rest of the filming will be shot with the ropes off her. Instead she poses with her arms free around the tree to avoid all health scares for our actors.
As we draw closer to the end of our filming we continue to adopt these health and safety checks, but I will add any additional things if anything important that requires new rules or establishments to ensure good health and safety.

Pre-production: Storyboard

I made a detailed storyboard of key scenes that are in the vidoe, with that storyboard done we can use this as we begin to shoot our music video as a guide to stay intune with our vison and storyline.

I made the storyboard on A3 sheets and folded them into 8 setions to draw out each scene, using penicil and a handwriting to pen to enhance and add detail over the pencil drawing I made at the start.

My group and I are very proud of the storyboard and are currently planning which shoots to shoot first.

Pre-production: Shooting scrpit pt 2

e. What are significant eyelines and when do they change?

-One significant eyeline in the storyboard I'm making shows the artist looking in his car mirror and he can see the girl he's obsessed with he see her walking home in his rear view mirror.

-The moment she drops her phone on the ground when he run up behind her to return it their eyelines goes to their hands exchanging the phone and then the eyeline returns to his eye contact with her looking back at him bewildered and quickly making her way again.

-When she is tied to the tree the camera will slowly go around her as if he is walking looking over her wondering what he will do next.

-The classroom scene where he makes a drawing of her and the the camera draws upwards at his subject across the room when he first sights the one he desires in a lesson. The next significant eye line is then the close-up of the teachers whiteboard showcasing the song and the artist.

f. When / why does the camera move?
The scene when he stalks the girl and her friends to the shopping centre we will capture him following them leave over his should as he slowly walks metres behind him is a moment when the camera moves with the character.

The moment the girl breaks free from the tree as the actors back is turned to her as she runs we thought we could follow her running from him with the camera set in front of her running back on ourselves to capture her face up close looking panicked.
g. How can you use composition to show relationships / develop narrative (framing, focal length, arrangement of characters, etc)?
The scenes in his bedroom, objects in there could be featured up close and then a longshot estblishing his bedroom as whole. I think this is te same techinique we'll use in the classroom scene and the scene in the park where he takes her after kidnapping her the locations trees, bushes skies and waters to capture the surrounding as the narratuve goes in the images of nature will coorepond with the mood of the certain scenes.
h. What kind of coverage do you need (critical moments should have
more coverage / more editing options)?
I think the moment the girl realises that she has been watched but the boy and show the camrea of the them starting into the camera to show the lloks being exchange between them. After this we will cover the moment he places the hankerchief over her nose to knock her out will be filmed up close and feature either side of him to establish that no ones around to watch her been kidnapped. Finally the moment leading to her esape and unexpected shot to the victim causing her death will be heavily featured the surrounding the charaters facial expressions and them two together in the shot when the girl is tied to the tree as he his stuck what to do to make her like him.

Pre-production: Shooting Script

a. What do you need to show to establish environment?
To establish the envirnment in our music video, for instance the scene when the guy stalks the girl and her friends, the lcation of this scene will be amongst a shopping centre out startbucks to estblish that are amongst the public and he tries to not be noticed when they seat down in starbucks  having a converstion he would a few tables beside them.

I was inspired by Marcus Fosters music video I Was Broken shots of nature to establish the outdoors and that itwas we are inspired to incorporate into our muisc video when he shoots the one he's obsessed with will use inbetween scenes views of trees, bushes, branches, the sky for when it gets to the chrous 'blue skies are calling'.
b. When do you show establishing info?
We would like to introduce the artist in the scene in the classrom when he sees the girl he likes acriss him, as the teacher is conducting the lesson the whitebord behind has the name Oliver Fox-Nights of Broken Sleep. This will open up the video so that the audience know from the start who they're watching and listening to, this is how we will show establishing information of the artist.
c. When do characters move and how to show movement?
We thought for the scene where he stalks her and her friends tostrbucks after they go theyre separate ways the camera would be postioned above his shoulder capturing his subject as if the audience know the girls fate but she doesnt know what danger is to come from this tracking shot.

The ending scene when he has suddenly shot her in the park, as he flees the scene the camrea will face him as he walks into the camrea leaving the frame devastated of what he has done.
d. If relevant, at each significant moment, whose Point Of View are we sharing - does POV shift? When / how?
The point of view will vary between the whenever the artist watches her and stalks, but other than that the video will be filmed in the POV of the viewer.

Pre-production: Costumes and Props

6) Images of the costumes and props we intend to use in the video.

Here are photos hannah took that she will be wering during filiming as she is our female lead for our music video.

This is the Beatles top, jean jacket and coat that hannah will wear as her costume during filiming the music video.

Jonathan a perfroming arts student a friend to all of us in the group and our lead actor and artist for music video. Below are some great picture Hannah took of our actor Jonathan also in his costume for music video that both character meet the simple lothing that ties in with the conventions of an indie attire.

This is Jonathon, well known for his classic gentleman style

Song Chocie

Hannah and Radhika suggested that we use Blue Skies by the English folk band Noah and the the Whale for the song for our music video. I had never heard of the song until today and me and mark were certainly sold, and were confident this would be a perfect fit for the genre of our music video. We are currently planning the video now and we have decide to make the video a narrative piece because the song already tells a story of it own we would like to develop our own narrative for the song.

The video for the song features parts of the movie that goes with the homonymous album The First Days of Spring. It is introduced by the conversation between two friends, when one of them suggests that they should "go on" and live, which they had only done "a long time ago". It also serves as the film's trailer. Watch they're offical video below and leave comments on what you think about the song?

What is the meaning of We-think?

What is the meaning of 'Pro-sumer'?

The word is a combination of producer and consumer that perfectly describe the millions of participants in the Web 2.0 revolution; the consumer use the online technical devises to construct their own media products. The term came from Marshall McLuhan and Barrington Nevitt’s Take Today book published 1972 on page four, that with electrical technology, the consumer would become a producer. Alvin Tofflers book published in during 1980 called ‘The third Wave’, would coin it “prosumer”. His prediction is true today that the roles of producers and consumers would begin to blur and merge. However, in the book he refers to the group of people as “producing consumer”, this is when the prosumer creates goods for their own use and possibly to sell. For example, blogging is an online format based on our own personal subject matter, that can reach to thousands other user/prosumers online. I think prosumer means the transition from a passive consumers being passive are functioning as active participants in the process of online media products design and customization of the end product.
What people like Marshall McLuuhan and Berrington Nevitt predicted about the next generation of the internet were incredibly true , because web 2.0 in comparison web 1.0 is that it is digital-text flexible and easy for users to organised information/products online.
Wikipedia states- The term has also taken on multiple meanings in business and economics: the business sector sees the prosumer (professional–consumer) as a market segment, whereas economists see the prosumer (producer–consumer) as having greater independence from the mainstream economy. These differing meanings often describe the same people; consumers unusually interested in the products. It can also be used to differentiate the traditional passive consumer with an active consumer role more involved in the process, such as activity in the design or customization of the end product.

What is Me-casting?

Mecasting is a voluntary act where your share information on yourself to a group of people (friends) or for the public at large. Mecasting is all about the urge in us to get the message out on who we are, what we are doing, and what we think and create. Coupled with this urge is a desire to keep the information we share current with the aim of remaining relevant to others. This act of sharing on going personal data via any online distributed medium are considered mecasting. The leading pioneers apart of the social ladder are:-

Blogs: Blog  is a personal journal published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject.

Facebook: Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, family or public.

Flickr: Flickr is an online photo management and sharing application in the world. Show off your favourite photos and videos to the world.

Foursquare: foursquare, is a location-based social networking website for mobile devices, such as smartphones. Users "check-in" at venues using a mobile website, text messaging or a device-specific application by selecting from a list of venues the application locates nearby.

Podcasts: A multimedia digital file made available on the Internet for downloading to a portable media player, computer, etc. Podcasting offers a variety of content for listeners to consume how they want, when they want and where they want.

MySpace: MySpace is a social networking service owned by Specific Media LLC and pop star Justin Timberlake.  It is the leading social entertainment destination powered by the passion of fans. Music, movies, celebs, TV, and games made social.

Skype: Skype users to communicate with peers by voice, video, and instant messaging over the Internet. Phone calls may be placed to recipients on the traditional telephone networks. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free of charge, while calls to landline telephones and mobile phones are charged via a debit-based user account system. Skype has also become popular for its additional features, including file transfer, and videoconferencing.

Twitter:Twitter is an online social networking service and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets". Instantly connect to what's most important to you. As you can follow your friends, experts, favorite celebrities, and breaking news.

YouTube:
YouTube is a video-sharing website, created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005, on which users can upload, view and share videos with friends, family, and the world.

File:Webcam000c1.jpg
Webcams: A webcam is a video camera that feeds its images in real time to a computer or computer network, often via USB, ethernet, or Wi-Fi. This common use as a video camera for the World Wide Web gave the webcam its name. Other popular uses include security surveillance and computer vision and there are also uses on sites like video broadcasting services and for recording social videos .
Webcams are known for their low manufacturing cost and flexibility, making them the lowest cost form of videotelephony.
The evolution of technology continues to advance, while social media tools converge, mecasting grows near to its ultimate goal that “for any given individual to supply a real-time, online, on demand broadcast of their life, as it being lived.” As hardware becomes wearware, the ability to share first person experiences becomes easier.
We are more attracted to the real and live over the contrived and reproduced, this is why Facebook is growing at the cost of broadcast TV. This is flowing onto TV networks themselves to adopt live reality shows to maintain audience. Jerry Springer has proved people would rather watch a real life soap opera than a Hollywood recreation. Although broadcasting show no sign of departing our current media landscape, could be under threat by its conflicting allay mecast.
